The announcement was made during an "Evening with Tarrus Riley and Special Guests", held on June 4 at Devon House.
The
artist stated that he is very conscious about health issues. “I believe
that cranberry juice is refreshing and healthy and I never knew that so
many Jamaicans consume cranberry juice”. He continued, “I am pleased to
endorse the Ocean Spray products”.
William Mahfood, Managing
Director of WISYNCO, distributors of Ocean Spray, in his welcome
remarks, explained that the Ocean Spray range of products is Jamaica’s
number one cranberry juice. “People drink it not only for its great
taste, but also because it’s good for you”, he said. “We believe that
Tarrus Riley was the perfect candidate to be associated with the
brand. His strong talent and versatility, powerful lyrics, and his
image of health, and mass appeal are all powerful characteristics to be
associated with,” said Mahfood.
Tarrus Riley was awarded ‘Male
Vocalist of the Year’ by both the Reggae Academy Awards and the
‘International Reggae and World Music Awards in 2008, and both entities
also named his hit song, She’s Royal as ‘Song of the Year’. He also
received the Best Video, Best Reggae Recording, Breakthrough Reggae
Artist and the Peoples Choice Awards at the Reggae Academy Awards in
February 2008. The artist describes his music as ‘healing music’ and
his sophomore album, Parables, presents songs as lessons from the book
of life.
Wednesday’s event also featured performances by Dean Fraser
and Tarrus Riley, who included an acoustic performance on guitar of the
song My Baby (Cyan Sleep). Other songs performed were his popular
favourites, She’s Royal, Stay With You and Lion Paw. MCs were comedians
Ity and Fancy Cat, whose performance included a spoof of an Ocean Spray
commercial. Ocean Spray’s new TV commercial and print ads featuring
Tarrus Riley were launched.
