HAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRATES 150 YEARS WITH DIGICEL RISING STARS

The All-Girls School Receive Free Concert

Feb 18, 2008

The Rising Stars who arrived to tumultuous applause thrilled their audience with melodies from the heart in a 3-hour long love inspired concert. Sing along hits like Virgo’s Ex-Girlfriend and Tears Me Up were obvious crowed pleasers. The “Rum Ram King” sent the young girls in a frenzy when he brought Nickeisha Barnes on stage to perform Turn Your Lights Down Low. Performance after performance the stars delivered the songs that made them famous and won the hearts of Jamaicans everywhere.

Digicel Marketing Project Manager, Paula Pinnock-McLeod was pleased with this year’s activities. She explained. “This is something we at Digicel are very excited about. The young people of Jamaica have been avid supporters of the Rising Stars competition, and so we decided to make this concert our gift to them.”

School principal Heather Marks-Murray expressed delight in having the performers celebrate with her school. “It was a very well organized and executed event, at the standard we should like to see more events staged for young people. A welcomed and very appreciated change from the everyday straight academic work, which gives a balance to education,” commented Mark-Murray.

The Valentine’s Day showcase featured performances from Rising Stars, Romain Virgo, Jodian Pantry, Inga Stewart, Christopher Martin, One Third, Nickeishia Barnes, Lenya Wilks, O’Neil Peart, Tashina McKenzie, Micheala Jack, Kareen “Kaye” Ricketts and Deh Deh.

Schools all across the island were given the chance to enter the competition, which began on January 10. Fourteen schools, one from each parish, were randomly selected and the public was invited to vote for the school that they would like to receive the ALL -STAR Rising Stars Valentine’s Day concert. Hampton High School was hailed the grand prizewinner after the voting period ended on February 9.This is the second year that the bread basket parish walked away with the concert of love. Last year’s winner Black River High was entertained for over three hours by their favourite Rising Stars of 2006.
